Provincials 2012
660 swimmers, 66 teams from across the province, 10 Teddy Bares. It was a busy, exciting weekend at the Olympium as Ethel, Elizabeth, Tanya, Linda, Lesley, Paul, Bob, John, Ian and David took aim at our record book. 22 Club Records and 1 Ontario Record (John Monne – 50 Breast) ended up being set, and the team wound up in 20th place overall. A total of 6 Relay Records were established and every one of our swimmers had a hand in them. So congratulations to everyone who participated. Burlington Meet 2012
Alderwood Club Records were falling left and right on Sunday, Feb., 12/12 at the Burlington meet with Bryon Slade and David Jackman leading the way. In fact, Bryon broke the 55-59 age group 100 Free record only to have David break it again less than 10 minutes later... probably the shortest time that a club record has been held in Alderwood history. We also had fun establishing a new club record in the 240+ age group for the 4x50 Medley relay with a team consisting of Gregg Thurlbeck, John Monne, David Jackman and Bryon Slade.
On Sunday, January 22, 2012 the Alderwood Teddy Bares hosted our 37th annual swim meet. We had a great turn out and a lot of fun thanks to all those swimmers who braved the early hour to do what they love to do! We had 37 Ontario Records including one from our own John Monne. It is always exciting to see the comradery amongst the swimmers and the teams... a healthy sense of competition but also genuine encouragement and congratulations all round. Congratulations to all the swimmers and thank you for making it another great meet! Click here to view results.
Alderwood Teddy Bares 2nd Annual Fall Time Trial
Aside from being fun, our time trial (on Nov. 27/11) gets many of our swimmers involved in the competitive side of the sport. Congratulations to everyone who took part. See results.
End of Season BBQ
It was a perfect evening for a barbeque as the Alderwood Teddy Bares celebrated the 2010/11 swim season at Karen and Mike Cameron’s home. The food was terrific and plentiful and everyone was hungry after working hard in the pool. The traditional year-end awards were handed out after dinner. This year’s recipient of the Best Effort – Female award is Wendy Pinder. Best Effort – Male went to Chuck Armitage. And the Best Teammate trophy was presented to Melissa Nelson. The night’s final award, the Stanley Cup, went to Boston.
On Sunday, January 23, 2011 the Alderwood Teddy Bares hosted their 36th annual swim meet, welcoming 120 swimmers to Ontario’s only Short Course Yards swim meet. By the end of the event a total of 19 new Ontario records had been established including 4 individual and 1 relay record for Judie Oliver of the North York Gators. Can’t wait until Judie ages up next year and goes after a whole new batch of records as an 80 year old. Nineteen Teddy Bares took to the water at the meet and, while there were no Ontario records set, we did see new club records established by Tom Barber (500 Free, 200 Breast), John Day (100 Fly), Roy Ehlermann (100 Fly, 200 Fly), Grant Jeffrey (500 Free), Elizabeth Turner (100 IM) and Catherine Vandyke (100 IM). Thanks to everyone who took part in running the meet! Go to team records. See results.

There’s quite a good explanation of common disqualifications in Masters Swimming featured in a new video on the Masters Swimming Canada site. Included is an explanation of some changes to the rules for Masters (a very important change in the rule for backstroke turns).
The video is good for any Masters swimmer but it’s really quite important for any of us who have our strokes and turns qualifications.
